Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure
The
Department of Employee Health staffs a 24-hour hotline to ensure timely
evaluation of bloodborne pathogen (BBP) exposures.
If you
experience a potential exposure to BBP you should do the following:
1.
Stop
the procedure, or excuse yourself from continuation, as soon as it is feasible
and safe for the patient.
2.
Wash
the affected area with soap and water.
3.
Report
your exposure to the 24-hour hotline using the Employee Health Department 888-OUCH pager.
4.
Follow
the instructions regarding further evaluation and post-exposure prophylaxis
